22. 꾸지람 앞에서의 겸손

1 다른 사람이 해 주는 충고와 책망과 꾸지람을 마치 본인이 자기 자신에게 하는 것처럼 그러한 인내심으로 받아들일 수 있는 종은 복됩니다.
2 책망을 들을 때 자기 잘못을 쾌히 인정하고, 조용히 받아들이며, 겸손하게 고백하고 또한 기꺼이 보속하는 종은 복됩니다.
3 변명하는 데 빠르지 않고 본인이 범하지 않은 죄에 대해서도 수치와 책망을 겸손되이 참아 견디는 종은 복됩니다.

 

 

 

XXII. The talkative religious

 

Blessed that religious who never says anything just for what he can get out of it. He should never be hasty in his words (Prov. 20:20) or open his heart to everyone, but he should think hard before he speaks. Woe to that religious ho does not keep the favors God has given him to himself; people should see them only through his good works, but he wants to tell everybody about them, hoping he will get something out of it. In this way he has received his reward, and it does not do his listeners any good.
