제35장 중병에 걸린 성녀 클라라가 크리스마스날 밤에 기적적으로

제35장 중병에 걸린 성녀 클라라가 크리스마스날 밤에 기적적으로 성 프란치스코의 성당으로 운반되어 성무일도에 참여하다.

성녀 클라라는 중병에 걸렸으므로 다른 자매와 함께 성무일도를 바치러 성당에 갈 수 없었다. 크리스마스날 밤 다른 자매들은 모두 아침기도를 드리러 갔지만, 성녀 클라라만은 병석에 남아 있을 수밖에 없어서 다른이들과 더불어 위안을 받을 수 없는 것을 마음 아프게 생각하였다.

그러나 그의 정배이신 예수 그리스도는 클라라 성녀가 이 위안에서 제외되는 것을 원치 않으셨다. 주께서는 성녀를 기적적으로 성 프란치스코 성당으로 운반하여 밤중기도와 자정미사에 참여케 하셨다. 그뿐 아니라 거기서 영성체까지 하고 미사가 끝날 때 예수께서는 다시 성녀를 병석으로 운반하였다.

성 다미아노 성당에서 성무일도가 끝나자 자매들은 성녀 클라라에게로 돌아와서 “클라라 원장님, 이 거룩한 성탄날 밤에 우리들은 얼마나 깊은 영적 위안을 받았는지 모릅니다. 원장님도 같이 가실 수 있었더라면 좋았을 텐데요···”하고 말했더니 성녀는 이와같이 대답하였다. “사랑하는 자매, 그리고 나의 딸들, 나는 지극히 복되신 우리 주 예수 그리스도께 찬미와 감사를 드립니다. 엄숙하고 거룩한 오늘밤의 모든 행사에 나도 역시 참례하여 큰 위안을 받았으니까요. 거룩한 사부 성 프란치스코의 전구와 우리 주 예수님의 은총으로 나는 우리 사부이신 성 프란치스코 성당 미사 예절에 참석했었습니다. 그리고 내 육신의 귀는 영혼의 귀처럼 그 성당에서 드리는 성무일도와 성가와 올갠소리를 다 들었습니다. 더구나 거기서 성체를 영하기까지 했습니다. 그러니까 여러분도 내가 받은 은혜를 기뻐하고 우리 주 예수 그리스도께 감사드리시오.”

그리스도께 찬미. 아멘.

주: 성녀 클라라는 1253년에 세상을 떠났으며 이 에피소드는 1252년 크리스마스날에 있었다. 성녀 클라라가 살았던 성 다미아노 수녀원은 아씨시 성 프란치스코 대 성당에서 2Km 떨어져 있다.

35. How St. Clare Was Miraculously Carried on Christmas Eve to the Church of St. Francis

At one time the most devout spouse of Christ, St. Clare, while staying at San Damiano, was seriously ill, so that she was unable to go and say the office in church with the other nuns.

Now the Feast of the Nativity of Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ came, when the Sisters used to recite matins and devoutly receive Holy Communion at the Mass of the Nativity. While all the others went to matins, St. Clare remained alone in bed, seriously ill ad very sad because she could not go with the others to attend such a holy ceremony and have that spiritual consolation.

But Our Lord Jesus Christ wished to give this most faithful spouse of His a consolation, and He miraculously let her attend in spirit both the matins and the Mass as well as the whole celebration of the Feast by the friars in the Church of St. Francis, so that she clearly heard the organ and the friars' chanting to the end of the Mass. Moreover, she received Holy Communion and was fully consoled. Then He had her carried back to bed.

Now when the Sisters had finished the office in San Damiano, they came back to St. Clare and said to her: "Oh, dear Mother, Sister Clare, what great consolations we have had in this holy Feast of the Savior's Nativity-if only you could have been with us!"

But she answered: "My dear little sisters and daughters, I give thanks and praise to God, myBlessed Lord Jesus Christ, because my soul had the consolation of attending all the ceremonies of this most holy night-but still greater and more solemn and beautiful ones than yours. For by the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ and through the intercession of my most blessed Father St. Francis, I was present in the Church of my Father St. Francis, and with my bodily and spiritual ears I heard all the chanting and the organ, and moreover I received Holy Communion there. So rejoice and praise Our Blessed Jesus Christ with all your hearts for such a great grace which e gave me, since while I was lying here sick, as I said, I was present at the whole ceremony in the Church of St. Francis-whether in the body or outside the body, I don't know; my God who took me there to attend His ceremony knows."
