 글은 오하이오주 클리브랜드의 플레인 딜러(Plain Dealer)지에 투고
하는 금년(2015) 58세인 레지나 브렛(Regina Brett)  글입니다.
 
그는 유명한 칼럼을 쓰는 작가로 프릿츠상도 수상한바 있습니다.
인터넷 상에는 90 노인이 쓴글로 퍼져있는데 레지나 브렛의 홈페이지
 들어가니 구글로 검색해 보니 43만여건이 90 노인이 글로 적시되어
사실이 아니라는 해명 글이 있었습니다.
 
나이가 들어가는 것을 기념하기 위해나는 예전에 내가 인생에서 배운
45가지의 교훈을 글로 적었다 글이 내가 인생에서 지금까지 썼던
가장 유용한 칼럼이다 나이는 이제 8월이면50 된다그래서 
시점에 다시    칼럼을 보정해서 50개의 교훈을 게재한다.“

일본의 소노 아야코(曾野綾子)  戒老錄이 생각납니다초판은 그녀
 30 후반에 썼고 70대에 들어 마지막 보정판을 내었습니다.
 
 
 
1. 인생은 공평하지 않습니다하지만 그렇다 하더라도 여전히 인생은
좋습니다Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
 
2. 의심이  때는 그저 약간만 앞으로 전진하십시오.
When in doubt, just take the next small step.
 
3. 인생은 누구를 미워하며 시간을 허비하기에는너무 짧습니다.
Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
 
4. 당신이 아플  당신의 직업은 당신을 지켜주지않습니다.
오직 당신의 친구와 가족만이 당신 곁을 지켜줄 것입니다.
Your job won't take care of you when you are sick.
Your friends will. Stay in touch.
 
5. 카드빚은 매달마다 정산하십시오.
Pay off your credit cards every month.
 
6. 당신이 모든 논쟁에서 반드시 이겨야 하는 것은아닙니다.
和而 不同입니다
You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
 
7. 누군가와 함께 우십시오혼자 우는 것보다 훨씬  당신을 치유해
 것입다.
Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
 
8. 신에게 화를 내도 괜찮습니다신은 그것을 받아줄  있습니다.
It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
 
9.  월급을  때부터 은퇴할 때를 대비하여 저축을 시작하십시오.
Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
 
10. 굳이 초콜릿을 먹지 않으려고 저항하는 것은 쓸데없는 짓입니다.
When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
 
11. 당신의 과거와 화해하십시오그러면 당신의과거가 현재를 망가뜨리
 않습니다.
Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
 
12. 당신의 자녀들이 당신이 우는 모습을   있도록 해도 괜찮습니다.
It's OK to let your children see you cry.
 
13. 당신의 삶을 다른 사람들의 삶과 비교하지 마십시오당신은 다른
사람들의 삶이 실제로 어떠한지 결코   없습니다.
Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
 
14. 만일 어떤 인간관계가 비밀에 부쳐져야 한다면그런 인간관계는 맺지
않는 편이 좋습니다.
If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
 
15. 모든 것은  깜짝할 사이에 변할  있습니다하지만 걱정하지 마십
시오신은 결코 눈을 깜빡거리지 않습니다.
Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry;
God never blinks.
 
16. 숨을 깊이 들이쉬십시오그럼 당신의 마음에평정을 가져옵니다.
Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
 
17.  만하지 않고 아름답지 않고 흥겹지 않은 것은  버려라.
Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
 
18. 어떤 고통이든지간에 그것이 실제로 당신을죽이지 못한다면 그것이
당신을 강하게 만들어  것입니다.
Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
 
19. 행복한 어린 시절을 가지기에 너무 늦은 때는없다그다음은 다른
누구가 아닌 당신이 하기에 달렸다..
It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second
one is up to you and no one else.
 
20. 당신이 인생에서 정말 사랑하는 것을 추구하는 부분에 있어서는절대
  된다는 대답을 받아들여서는  됩니다.
When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
 
21. 촛불을 켜십시오좋은 침대시트를 쓰십시오.근사한 속옷을 입으십
시오그런 것들을 특별한 날을 위해 아껴두지 마십시오오늘이 바로
가장 특별한 날입니다.
Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.
Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
 
22. 준비는 항상 필요한 것보다  많이 하고실전에서는 흐름에 따르
십시오Overprepare, then go with the flow.
 
23. 괴짜가 되십시오자주색 옷을 입기 위해서 나이가 먹을 때까지 기다
리지 마십시오.
Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
 
24. 섹스를 위해서 가장 중요한 신체 기관은 뇌입니다.
The most important sex organ is the brain.
 
25. 당신 외에는 아무도 당신의 행복을 책임지지않습니다.
No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
 
26. 소위 재앙이라고 말하는 모든 일들을 다음 질문의  속에서 판단
하십시오. ‘5 후에도  일이 정말로 내게 중요할까?’
Frame every so-called disaster with these words:
"In five years, will this matter?"
 
27. 항상 삶을 선택하십시오.
Always choose life.
 
28. 누구에게나 모든 것을 용서하십시오.
Forgive everyone everything.
 
29. 다른 사람들이 당신에 대해 어떻게 생각하는지는 당신이 신경 
일이 아닙니다.
What other people think of you is none of your business.
 
30. 시간은 모든 것을 치유합니다시간에게 시간을 주십시오.
Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
 
31. 상황이 좋건 나쁘건상황은 반드시 변하게 됩니다.
However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
 
32. 당신 스스로를 너무 심각하게 받아들이지 마십시오당신 자신 말고
다른 누구도 그렇게 하지 않습니다.
Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
 
33. 기적을 믿으십시오.
Believe in miracles.
 
34. 신은 그저 신이기 때문에 당신을 사랑합니다.당신이 하거나 하지
않는 것들 때문에 당신을 사랑하는 것은 아닙니다.
God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything
you did or didn't do.
 
35. 인생을 청강하지 마십시오지금 당당히 앞으로 나와 인생을 최대한
활용하십시오.
Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
 
36. 성장해가는 노인이 죽어가는 젊은이보다 낫습니다.
Growing old beats the alternative - dying young.
 
37. 당신 자녀에게 있어서 어린 시절은 인생에서오직 한번 뿐입니다.
좋은 추억을 갖도록 하십시오.
Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.
 
38. 결국 마지막에 정말로 중요한 것은 당신이 사랑했다는 것입니다.
All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
 
39. 매일 밖으로 나가십시오기적이 모든 곳에서당신을 기다리고 있습
니다.
Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
 
40. 만일 우리가 우리 자신의 문제들을 쌓아 올린후에 다른 모든 사람들
 문제들을 보게 된다면우리 자신의 문제는 나중에 처리하게  것입
니다.
If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's,
we'd grab ours back.
 
41. 선망은 시간낭비입니다당신이 필요한 것은이미  갖고 있습니다.
Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

The best is yet to come.

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift..
 
46. 인생은 장시간 연민에 빠질 만큼 한가롭지 않다죽든 살든 바쁘게
살자.
Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get
busy dying.
 
47. 무었을 얻으려면 노력을 쏟아 부어라
You can get through anything if you stay put in today.
 
48. 시편을 읽으세요인간의 감성을 대부분 망라하고 있습니다.
Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.
 
49. 추구하지 않으면 얻지 못한다.
If you don't ask, you don't get.
 
50.작가는 글를 쓴다작가가 되려면 쓰라.
A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.
