평화의 기도

 

주님,

저를 당신 평화의 도구가 되게 하소서

 

 

미움이 있는 곳에 사랑을,

다툼이 있는 곳에 용서를 

 

분열이 있는 곳에 일치을  

오류가 있는 곳에 진리를

의혹이 있는 곳에 믿음을

절망이 있는 곳에 희망을

어둠이 있는 곳에 광명을

슬픔이 있는 곳에 기쁨을 심게 하소서.

주님 

위로를 구하기보다는 위로하고,

이해를 구하기보다는 이해하며,

사랑을 구하기보다는 사랑하게 해 주소서.

 

자기를 줌으로써 받고,

자기를 잊음으로써 찾으며,

용서함으로써 용서받고

죽음으로써 영생으로 부활하리니

Prayer For Peace

 

 Lord,
make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying
that we are born to eternal life.

 

 

이 작품은 복음적인 내용이 짙게 깔려있는 매우 대중적이며 아름다운 기도문이다. 

이 기도는 프란치스코 성인의 것으로 간주되어 왔으나 성인이 쓴 것은 아니다. 성인의 정신을 따르기로 힘쓰던 사람들에 의하여 채택된 것으로 본다. 

용서함으로써 용서받고,

죽음으로써 영생으로 부활하리니
